Isn't It Ironic? Chris Brown Boasts About His Maturity

Chris Brown isn't someone who's known for keeping his cool. So we were understandably surprised (albeit amused) when he went off on a tangent about how he's recently learned how to use Twitter in an appropriate, adult manner.

The FDA Shuts Down A New Mexico Plant After A Salmonella Outbreak

By Paul Johnson

Story Updated: Nov 27, 2012 at 11:53 AM MST

Portales, New Mexico (CNN) - The FDA shut down a New Mexico peanut plant after a salmonella outbreak that sickened 41 people.
Sunland Peanut Company pulled its products from shelves at Trader Joe's stores across the country.
The F-D-A found bacterial contamination at the company's plant in Portales, New Mexico, and suspended Sunland's license Monday.
The company's vice president says workers have torn down and rebuilt all the equipment, and is waiting for the F-D-A to approve a re-opening.
This is the first time the F-D-A has shut down a plant, using new power gained in a 2011 food safety law.

Brad Pitt talks fatherhood, turning 50 and 'World War Z'

Brad Pitt, set to star in the horror flick "World War Z," talked to "Good Morning America" on November 28 about the upcoming zombie film, turning 50 and the experience of fatherhood.

"It turns everything on its head," Pitt said on the November 28 episode of "Good Morning America." "I love it. I love it."

Pitt, 49, and fianc? Angelina Jolie share six children - Maddox, 11, Pax, 8, Zahara, 7, Shiloh, 6, and their 4-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. The actor explained how being a father has not only changed his life, but impacted his views on turning the big 50.

"Yeah, I've given a lot of thought to it," Pitt said. "You become very aware of time, and I think also, being a father, everything is time allocation for me now, and making sure that I'm spending my time wisely and doing the things that are important to me and spending the time I need to with the family."

Pitt and Jolie, who announced their engagement in April, have a number of different homes around the world. Pitt talked about the "base camps," and explained how each one serves its different purpose.

"We have a base camp in L.A., because [we do] a lot of work out of there, and we're trying to set up a European base camp for the kids," Pitt explained. "They get more sense of normalcy there. We're not as hounded at certain places there."

"France, especially," Pitt continued. "They have rules about shooting kids - photographing kids. I think they're more sensitive to it after the Diana incident. They [the French] think they're as cool as anyone else."

Pitt is set to star as a suave hit man in the upcoming drama horror "World War Z," which sees a United Nations employee racing against time and fate as he travels the world trying to stop the outbreak of a deadly zombie pandemic.

"I'm a fixture - I clean up the problems," Pitt explained on the morning show. "Yeah, I even take a few shots at Jefferson, which was difficult for me - I'm a Jeffersonian to the core."

"World War Z," which is based on Max Brooks' novel by the same name, also stars Matthew Fox of "LOST" fame, last seen in "Alex Cross," David Morse and James Badge Dale.

The movie is set for released on June 21, 2013. Damon Lindelof, co-creator of ABC's "LOST," co-wrote the script with "Lions for Lambs" writer Matthew Michael Carnahan. The director of "World War Z" is Marc Forster, who helmed films such as the Johnny Depp movie "Finding Neverland" and the 2008 James Bond film "Quantum of Solace."

Nassim Taleb Deigns To Sit For An Interview

The Observer:

How much does Nassim Taleb dislike journalists? Let me count the ways. "An erudite is someone who displays less than he knows; a journalist or consultant the opposite." "This business of journalism is about pure entertainment, not the search for the truth." "Most so-called writers keep writing and writing with the hope, some day, to find something to say."

Freshwater Fish

-????? There are approximately 151.1 million owned freshwater fish in the United States.

-????? There are approximately 11.9 million households that own a pet fish.

-????? Fish owners generally have more than one fish.

-????? There are 171.1 million pet freshwater fish in the United States compared to 11.2 million saltwater fish.

Bird

-????? There are approximately?16.2 million owned birds in the United States.

-????? There are approximately 5.7 million households that own a pet bird.

-????? There are over 40 million pet birds living in the U.S.

'RG3' Wants to Play Obama, Not Talk Politics

The Berlin Wall had already fallen by the time Robert Griffin III was born.

Today, the son of two Army sergeants has grown into one of the most-hyped young football stars on the national scene. He roared through Baylor University in Texas with a political science degree in less than four years, winning the 2011 Heisman Trophy along the way.

Griffin then moved to Washington, but not for the same reasons as other poli-sci grads who flock to the shores of the Potomac. Chosen by the Washington Redskins in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft, the 22-year-old star quarterback is the new great hope of the D.C. sports world.

Despite living in the nation's political capital, Griffin -- commonly referred to by the nickname "RG3" -- knows better than to talk much about his own political views. But he has a passion for encouraging young people to vote.

Griffin joined the nonprofit group Rock the Vote in October to encourage young people to cast a ballot. Griffin sent his own ballot to Texas by mail, but won't say whether he chose Mitt Romney or President Obama.

He also teamed up with the makers of the new video game "Assassins Creed III."

Griffin got an early taste for Washington last year when he met Obama and challenged him to a pick-up basketball game. "He said he wouldn't play me but I could play on his team," Griffin told Yahoo News.

Griffin has ambitions to go to law school, and he's leaving open the possibility of one day being bitten by the politics bug. "Who knows what the future will hold," he said when asked whether he could see himself in elected office. "But, right now, I have no plans for running for office."

For now, in a city polarized and clouded by partisan bickering, Griffin is one of the few figures who have shown promise of uniting the place. In an exclusive interview with Yahoo News, Griffin talked about the importance of voting rights, what it's like playing for the football team in the nation's political capital, his dream basketball pick-up game with Obama and his love of video games.

Yahoo News: When you cast your ballot for president, what were some of the most pressing issues that were on your mind?

RG3: For me, I always told my fianc?e and my family that money would never change the way I viewed politics. For me, it wasn't a money issue. It was about overall what each candidate presented, but I can't disclose who I voted for.

YN: Why don't you like to talk about who you voted for?

RG3: There's a couple things you don't talk about in life, and that's race, religion and politics. I try to make sure I don't talk about politics at all.

YN: You now live near Washington, D.C., the country's political city. Are you able to find time to follow politics much now that you're playing for the D.C. town?

RG3: I get my share here and there via the news on TV and sometimes I'll stop in on the stations and listen for a second. But for the most part, I try to stay out of it and make sure I stay focused on football.

YN: You were a political science major at Baylor. Is the political process different from how you imagined it now that you live in the politics capitol?

RG3: No, politics is not what people think it is. I know that from being a political science major. You really can't get too much of a feel for it by being this close to the capital unless you go out to rallies and you're an inside source. And by no means am I an inside source.

YN: Any politicians in D.C. you would like to meet?

RG3: I've met the [D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray] and I've met President Obama. Other than that, it's good for now. We'll see what politicians I can meet in the off season.

YN: What did you and President Obama talk about when you met him?

RG3: I met him at the National Prayer Breakfast after I won the Heisman. He just talked about how good of a player I was and I challenged him to game of basketball. He said he wouldn't play me but I could play on his team.

YN: Do you think Obama will ever change his mind and play against you?

RG3: I don't think he'll ever play against me. We'll have it me and him versus [All-American Baylor senior] Brittney Griner and Mrs. Obama.

YN: When you were younger, you had an interest in pursuing a law degree. Do you have any interest in running for office yourself someday?

RG3: I do want to go to law school, but right now, the 22-year-old me has no interest in politics. Who knows what the future will hold but right now I have no plans for running for office.

YN: Tell me about your efforts getting people out to vote. Why is it so important to you that people vote?

RG3: To me, it's not necessarily about whom you vote for, it's more about the fact that you go out and exercise that right. There's a lot of people who fight for our right to vote and people in other countries fighting for other peoples' right to vote and I think everyone should exercise that vote. Everyone says, "My vote doesn't count" but if everybody has that attitude then nobody would vote. Every vote does count and if you want something done, you have to reach out and be sure you're active about it.

YN: Have you learned anything about Washington, D.C., that you might not have known before you came here?

RG3: The actual town is smaller than people think. I haven't had that much of a chance to do that much in D.C., seeing that we're based in Northern Virginia and our stadium's in Maryland. But I've been able to go out on the tours and eat dinner in D.C. and it's awesome. The little experiences I've had there have been great. It's crazy how many tourists you see. People think the traffic in D.C. is all from people who live there, but it's all the tourists who are going to see the monuments. It's a really attractive place, not only for people who live around this area but for people from around the world.

YN: You grew up in a Christian home and went to a Baptist university. Have you found a home church in the D.C. area?

RG3: I go to a church in this area, but I haven't necessarily found a home church yet. I'm still in the process of finding that.

YN: Where do you attend?

RG3: I go to Cornerstone [Fellowship Church.]

YN: Has your faith shaped the way you view politics or policy?

RG3: It shapes everybody's view. To me, you don't directly relate it, but my faith makes me who I am. When it comes to that, my beliefs are not strict to only what the Bible says. I'm influenced by. ... You probably can't point out exactly what it shapes, but it does shape you.

YN: You have said that you want to try and unite the city. President Obama said he was impressed that you could bring people together in ways politicians can't. What's it like being the only person in this town who can unite Republicans and Democrats?

RG3: It's more than just me. It's this team. Whenever you play a sport, you can be extremely powerful in certain situations and when it comes to uniting people, football teams tend to do that. ... As long as we can continue to go out and inspire people, maybe D.C. will be better off.

YN: You came from a military family. Have you had the chance to interact with service members in D.C. since you've lived here?

RG3: I have had the chance to interact. Wounded Warriors, they bring them out to our practices and our games all the time and we get a chance to speak with them. Just the other day, we had a squad come out to one of our practices. It's just good to be able to show them the gratitude we have for them. My parents both served and my dad went over to the war. It's people like that who helped my dad come back. I lived in a military town so I understand that there's a lot of families who don't have their families come back. You want to show the appreciation they have for them, those who come back and the ones who have fallen because they're all ones who are helping keep this country upright.

YN: How do you feel about the winding down the military efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan?

RG3: Everybody wants world peace, and there's no telling if it will ever happen. But the one thing we can do is try to make sure that it's facilitated quicker without force. It's not me, I don't run the country.

YN: Have you thought of joining the military?

RG3: Not at this time. You never know what could happen, but at this time it hasn't crossed my mind.

YN: Let's switch to football for a minute. Can you talk a bit about the transition from being a college player to joining the NFL? Is it any different?

RG3: The game is different because everybody on the field is an All-American. The game is faster, the hashes are closer so the hits look more devastating. In that instance, it has changed but it's still football. As a competitor you rise to the challenge. You can still have fun, just make sure you don't change your mindset towards it. There's far more that goes into being a professional athlete than being a college athlete. So many differences that people don't realize. It's not just about playing football and getting paid to do it. There's a lot of things that you have to deal with.

YN: Have those things surprised you?

RG3: Not necessarily surprised me but it's different when what you dream of as a kid and you think, "I want to be a professional athlete." You don't necessarily say, "I want to deal with all these other things as well."

YN: What are those things?

RG3: It's not something to complain about, but just the major difference between college and the pros is that in college you're guaranteed four to five years so long as you don't do anything criminally and in the pros you're guaranteed one day because you can be cut the next. The fact that you see guys' dreams taken away from them; some guys get chances some guys don't. Some guys are on the team and the next day they're cut because they needed a wide receiver because one of the other receivers got hurt and they cut the [defensive back]. It's tough to have to deal with all those emotional highs and lows.

When it comes to contract and money disputes, all those things are far more complicated than people think. Off the field things with media interviews and fines and things like that. It's such a business that people don't realize it from the outside in, but when you're in the inside looking out you kind of see the freedom you had as a college player is basically gone when you're professional.

YN: You have mentioned a love of video games. You did a joint promotion with "Assassins Creed III" and Rock the Vote. Have you found time to make your way through the game yet?

RG3: "Assassins Creed III" is an awesome game. I've had the chance to play it and I'm about 45 percent the way through. I only can play here and there. I can't play nonstop for a long time. It's a fun game and I've played it before. ... It won't change the way you view history but it's certainly a twist on it and it's very interesting the way they go about explaining the story and the historical events. It's really cool.

White House Warns Tax Hike Will Curb Consumer Spending

An Obama administration report out today says the typical American household will pay $2,200 in additional taxes next year if the so called Bush-era tax cuts for the middle class are allowed to expire.

The findings from the President's Council of Economic Advisers also states that the net result would be a slowdown in consumer spending by $200 billion in 2013, stunting the economic recovery by 1.4 percent. A decline of $200 billion in consumer spending is roughly equivalent to four times the amount spent by Black Friday shoppers last year, the report said, or the entire sum of domestic auto sales.

The White House's findings are a clear grab for leverage in the impending " fiscal cliff" talks on Capitol Hill, in which the previous administration's cuts have been a negotiating point. But it also largely echoes similar research from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office out earlier this month. Economists warn the automatic spending cuts and tax increases that would be triggered if Congress fails to pass a budget by the end of the year would plunge the country back into recession.

President Obama and congressional Democrats have taken the position of continuing the cuts for households making under $250,000 a year, while allowing those same breaks to expire for higher income earners. The Republican caucus has largely fought to keep those cuts in place across the board, but since this weekend several key members of the GOP signaled they were open to breaking a long-standing pledge not to raise taxes.

"The only pledge we should be making to each other is to avoid becoming Greece. And Republicans should put revenue on the table," Sen. Lindsey Graham, S.C.-R, said on ABC's "This Week" Sunday.

If negotiations are successful, the report claims the economy could still see an immediate negative impact: Uncertainty over possible future tax hikes on the middle class could lead to a slowdown in holiday shopping, stunting the economic recovery.

The White House report hits as millions of Americans turn to "Cyber Monday" for online holiday shopping deals, and coincidentally as Congress returns to session from its Thanksgiving break.

Best time of day to exercise
This has been a hot topic for a very long time.? In fact, it?s quite possible that cavemen and cavewomen were debating this while sitting around the campfire chomping on Mastodon burgers. The question is:

What?s The Best Time Of Day To Work Out?

??????????? Okay.? Fine.? Cave people had a few more important things to worry about like food, shelter, and getting eaten by Saber-Toothed Tigers.

??????????? But, if you are trying to lose weight and get in shape TODAY, then the answer to this question may be VERY important to you.

??????????? If you are like most people, you have very limited time.? So, you want to get the maximum results from exercise that you can in as little time and with least effort possible.

??????????? The good news is that a few recently published research papers may have some answers...

??????????? The first is a study published in the October issue of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.

??????????? This research out of Brigham Young University (BYU) shows that 45 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise in the morning actually reduces a person?s motivation for food.? This is contrary to the common belief that exercise STIMULATES appetite.?

??????????? According to BYU: Professors, James LeCheminant and Michael Larson, measured the neural activity of 35 women while they viewed food images, both following a morning of exercise and a morning without exercise. They found their attentional response to the food pictures decreased after the brisk workout.

??????????? ?This study provides evidence that exercise not only affects energy output, but it also may affect how people respond to food cues,? LeCheminant said.? The report went on to say, ?The 45-minute exercise bout not only produced lower brain responses to the food images, but also resulted in an increase in total physical activity that day, regardless of body mass index.?

??????????? One thing of interest was that the women did not eat more food on exercise days than non-exercise days.? In other words, they did not eat more to make up for the calories burned from working out.?

??????????? ?The subject of food motivation and weight loss is so complex,? Larson said. ?There are many things that influence eating, and exercise is just one element.?

What About Peak Performance?

??????????? There are studies that show the AFTERNOON is the best time for peak performance.? One study published in Sports Medicine in 1995 revealed that, ?Performance of physical activity is generally improved in the afternoon or evening, compared with morning.?

??????????? Even more important are the results from a study published in Medical Science Sports Exercise in 1998 that found: ?These results demonstrate that there is temporal specificity in training to increase work capacity in high-intensity exercise. Greater improvements can be expected to occur at the time of day at which high-intensity training is regularly performed.?

??????????? In other words, training at the same time every day yields the best results in regards to performance.

??????????? Here?s something to keep in mind?? The last two studies mentioned concern performance (strength, speed, etc.)? The first study done at BYU is about appetite and potential weight loss. Once again, science does not give us the clear-cut answer we are looking for.

So, What?s The Bottom Line?

??????????? Make an exercise plan and exercise regularly.? That is the number one priority.? Clearly, any workout is better than none.? But, TRY to workout at the same time every day.

??????????? These studies used small sample sizes and it is very possible that not everyone fits into these results.? For example, some people are morning people.? They jump out of bed at 5:30 every day cheering.? For others, that is torture.

??????????? So, is it possible that these two types of people have different peak performance times?? One early and the other later?? Yes, it is. Once again, try it out for yourself.? Just be consistent and give it a valid shot.? Don?t try something for a week or two and think it did not work. Exercise, weight loss, and athletic performance simply do not work like that.? Neither does health.?

??????????? All of these things take consistency.? You must do the right things? long enough?? and ?long enough? is for the rest of your life.

??????????? Sometimes reality can be a little harsh, but the alternative is much worse.?

Prof finds racial profiling in ads for data site

10 hrs.

Dr. Latisha Smith, an expert in decompression sicknesses afflicting deep sea divers, has cleared criminal background checks throughout her medical career. Yet someone searching the Web for the Washington state physician might well come across an Internet ad suggesting she may have an arrest record.

"Latisha Smith, arrested?" reads one such advertisement.

Another says: "Latisha Smith Truth... Check Latisha Smith's Arrests."

Instantcheckmate.com, which labels itself the "Internet's leading authority on background checks," placed both ads. A statistical analysis of the company's advertising has found it has disproportionately used ad copy including the word "arrested" for black-identifying names, even when a person has no arrest record.

Latanya Sweeney is a Harvard University professor of government with a doctorate in computer science. After learning that her own name had popped up in an "arrested?" ad when a colleague was searching for one of her academic publications, she ran more than 120,000 searches for names primarily given to either black or white children, testing ads delivered for 2,400 real names 50 times each. (The author of this story is a Harvard University fellow collaborating with Sweeney on a book about the business of personal data.)

Ebony Jefferson, for example, often turns up an instantcheckmate.com ad reading: "Ebony Jefferson, arrested?" but an ad triggered by a search for Emily Jefferson would read: "We found Emily Jefferson." Searches for randomly chosen black-identifying names such as Deshawn Williams, Latisha Smith or Latanya Smith often produced the "arrested?" headline or ad text with the word "arrest," whereas other less ethnic-sounding first names matched with the same surnames typically did not.

"As an African-American, I'm used to profiling like that," said Smith. "I think it's horrendous that they get away with it."

Instantcheckmate.com declined to comment. The company's founder and managing partner, Kristian Kibak, did not respond to repeated emails and phone calls over a period of several months, and other employees referred calls to management. Company officials also declined to comment when visited twice at their call center in Las Vegas. Former employees said they had signed nondisclosure agreements that barred them from speaking openly about Instant Checkmate.

Instantcheckmate.com is one of many data brokers that use and sell data for a variety of purposes. The field is attracting growing attention, both from government and consumers concerned about possible abuse. Rapid advances in technology have opened up all sorts of opportunities for commercialization of data.

Anyone can set up shop and sell arrest records as long as they stay clear of U.S. legal limitations such as using the information to determine creditworthiness, insurance or job suitability.

Companies that compete with instantcheckmate.com include intelius.com and mylife.com. An examination of Internet advertising starting last March as well as Sweeney's study did not find any rival companies advertising background searches on individual names along racial lines.

Who can be trusted??
In its own marketing, Instantcheckmate.com sums up its mission like this: "Parents will no longer need to wonder about whether their neighbors, friends, home day care providers, a former spouse's new love interest or preschool providers can be trusted to care for their children responsibly."

According to preliminary findings of Sweeney's research, searches of names assigned primarily to black babies, such as Tyrone, Darnell, Ebony and Latisha, generated "arrest" in the instantcheckmate.com ad copy between 75 percent and 96 percent of the time. Names assigned at birth primarily to whites, such as Geoffrey, Brett, Kristen and Anne, led to more neutral copy, with the word "arrest" appearing between zero and 9 percent of the time.

A few names fell outside of these patterns: Brad, a name predominantly given to white babies, produced an ad with the word "arrest" 62 percent to 65 percent of the time. Sweeney found that ads appear regardless of whether the name has an arrest record attached to it.

Blacks make up about 13 percent of the U.S. population but account for 28 percent of the arrests listed on the FBI's most recent annual crime statistics.

Internet advertising based on millions of name pairs has only existed in recent years, so targeting ads along racial lines raises new legal questions. Experts say the Federal Trade Commission, which this year assessed an $800,000 penalty against personal data site Spokeo.com for different reasons (related to the use of data for job-vetting purposes), would be the institution best placed to review Instant Checkmate's practices.

The FTC enforces regulations against unfair or deceptive business practices. A deceptive claim that would be more likely to get people to purchase a product than they would otherwise would be a typical reason the FTC might act against a company, said one FTC official who did not want to be identified. For example, authorities could take action against a firm that makes misleading claims suggesting a product such as records exist when they do not.

"It's disturbing," Julie Brill, an FTC commissioner, said of Instant Checkmate's advertising. "I don't know if it's illegal ... It's something that we'd need to study to see if any enforcement action is needed."

Instant Checkmate's Kibak, who is in his late 20s, works out of a San Diego office near the Pacific Ocean. The son of a California biology professor, he did not respond to repeated phone calls and emails seeking comment about his business.

"We would consider the answers to most of your questions trade secrets and therefore would not be comfortable disclosing that information," Joey Rocco, Kibak's partner according to the firm's Nevada state registration, said in an email.

Instant Checkmate LLC maintains its official corporate headquarters at an address in an industrial zone across the highway from the Las Vegas strip. At the back of a long parking lot, the company shares a warehouse building with an auto repair shop. At one end, a large roll-up garage-style door opens to the company's call center. Workers face a gray cinder-block wall, their backs to the entrance. Staff declined to answer questions.

Data firms proliferate?
Sweeney's analysis found that some instantcheckmate.com ads hint at arrest records when the firm's database has no record of any arrest for that name, as is the case with her own name. In other cases, such as that of Latisha Smith, the company does have arrest records for some people by that name, although not for the doctor of hypobaric medicine in Washington state.

Laura Beatty, an Internet Marketing Inc expert in helping companies achieve prominent placement in Web searches, said instantcheckmate.com appeared to choose its ads based on combinations of thousands of different first and last names and then segment them based on the first names.

"There does look like there is some definite profiling going on here," she said. "In the searches that I looked at, it seemed like the more Midwestern- and WASP-sounding the name was, the less likely it was to have either any advertisement at all or to have something that was more geared around the arrest or criminal background."

Internet firms selling criminal records and personal data to the public have proliferated in recent years, as low-cost computing enables even modest operations to maintain large databases on millions of Americans. Such sites sell access to users for a one-time fee???$29.95 in the case of instantcheckmate.com???or via monthly subscription plans.

Instant Checkmate, first registered in Nevada in 2010, said in a recent press release posted online that the firm had attracted more than 570,000 customers since its start and counted more than 200,000 subscribers.

According to alexa.com, an Amazon.Com Inc site analyzing website traffic, instantcheckmate.com has ranged roughly between the 500th and 600th most visited U.S. site in recent weeks, making it an increasingly major player in this area.

The company is able to target its ads on an individual name basis through a program called Google AdWords. Instantcheckmate.com and others companies like it use Google AdWords to bid to place small text advertisements alongside search results on major websites triggered by the names in their data base. Such ads typically cost a company far less than a dollar, sometimes just a few pennies, each time they're clicked.

Google says it does not control what names appear in AdWords. "Advertisers select all of their keywords, and ads are triggered when someone searches for that name. We don't have any role in the advertiser's selection of unique proper names," said a Google spokesman.

Some in Congress have raised concerns about developments in the use of personal data. In October, Sen. John Rockefeller IV, a Democrat from West Virginia and chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, opened a probe into leading data brokers. "Collecting, storing and selling information about Americans raises all types of questions that require careful scrutiny," he said.

Trading Tips For Successful Forex Investing - Search Forex

The foreign exchange market ? also frequently called Foreign Exchange ? is an open market that trades between world currencies. For instance, an investor from the U.S. who has purchased the Japanese yen may be seeing the yen getting stronger as compared to the U.S. dollar. If he?s right and trades the yen for the dollar, his will make a profit.

There are several advantages to trading in the Foreign Exchange market as opposed to other trading methods. You can trade any time of day since it is available 24/7. In addition, only a minimum amount of capital is needed in order to take full advantage of all the different opportunities with forex. You can literally use Foreign Exchange any time, day or night.

While it may seem simple, foreign exchange is a serious investment and should not be undertaken lightly. Investing in Forex is not a fun adventure, but a serious endeavor, and people should approach it in that manner. It would be more effective for them to try their hand at gambling.

Forex is foreign currency exchange market where you earn income by trading against currency values. Forex trading can be a good at home job to make additional income and could lead to a second career. Do some basic research and learning so you understand what you are getting into before starting to trade forex.

TIP! Are you interested in Forex trading? Before you start doing anything in forex, make sure you understand the basic fundamentals of how currency exchange markets function. Learn about currency fluctuations, and what causes shifts in the currency markets.

Avoid the urge to gamble with the Forex market. Trade rationally and closely analyze your decisions before risking your funds.

If you have lost on a few trades in a row you should avoid trying to compensate for those losses by taking an ill advised risk. Give yourself some downtime from the market. Take a break, cool down and move on.

Stop Loss

When trading Forex, placing stop losses appropriately is more of an art than a science. Forex traders need to strike the correct balance between market analysis and pure instincts. This will be your best bet in being successful with stop losses.

TIP! Just like anything else, you can have too much of a good thing with trading. Protect your credit line and take it easy.

Always make use of stop-loss signals on your account. This is like insurance created for your trading account. Without a stop loss order, any unexpected big move in the foreign exchange market can cost you a lot of money. A stop loss is important in protecting your investment.

Research specific currency pairs prior to choosing the ones you will begin trading. Trying to learn everything at once will take you way too long, and you?ll never actually start trading. Choose one pair and read up on them. Focus on one area, learn everything you can, and then start slowly.

Stick to currency pairs that are traded often. Trading with common currency pairs means you will be able to buy and sell at fast speeds since there will be other traders in the market trading the same pairs. You may be stuck with rare currencies longer than you want it due to a lack of buyers when you are ready to sell.

If you want to truly succeed with Forex, you have to learn to make decisions without letting emotions get in the way. Doing so reduces your level of risks and also prevents you from making impulsive decisions. Although it is impossible to completely disregard your emotions in business matters, the best approach to making successful trades is a rational one.

TIP! During your beginning forex trading forays, avoid overextending yourself with involvement in a large number of markets. Doing so will quite likely cause agitation and puzzlement.

Forex robots or eBooks are unlikely to deliver satisfactory results and are seldom worth their prices. In most cases, what you get from these items in return for your hard-earned cash are trading techniques that are unconfirmed, untested and unreliable. Such products are designed to enrich their vendors; the success of the buyers is incidental at best. Avoid these scams, and spend your money for some one on one lessons with an established foreign exchange trader.

Knowing when to accept your losses and try another day is an essential skill for any Foreign Exchange trader. Many traders leave their money hoping the market will readjust and that they can earn back what they lost. This is the wrong strategy to use.

Foreign Exchange

You should figure out what sort of trading time frame suits you best early on in your forex experience. If you desire to move trades fast, make use of the 15-minute and hourly chart in order to exit your trade quickly. Scalpers utilize ten and five minute charts to enter and exit very quickly.

TIP! Try to break away a few times each week or, at least, a few hours each day. Sometimes, you need to step back from the crazy market action to think clearly again.

There is no larger market than foreign exchange. Investors who are well versed in global currency are primed to have the highest rate of success in forex trading. For uneducated amateurs, Foreign Exchange trading can be very risky.

Home Improvement: What To Understand Before You Begin ...

Most people hear the term ?home improvement? and right away reach for the Yellow Pages. Nevertheless it doesn't need to be as hard a role as you think. There are lots of do-it-yourself strategies to do-it-yourself. This article will provide you with a few creative tips for improving your home, without spending a lot.

Select satin paint in an area that may need constant cleaning. Satin paint has a beautiful glaze, and is appropriate for family room and children?s rooms, and the bathroom or kitchen, as it is really easy to clean. Keep in mind that touch-ups can be tough, as a difference in glaze would be plain.

If you are planning on painting a room as an element of a DIY project, you can save cash by precisely guessing the amount of paint you'll need. One gallon of paint will cover about 350 sq. feet of wall space, unless you are painting drywall, which absorbs more paint. A precise guess can stop you from overbuying paint, which once mixed in a particular color generally can?t be returned.

A great thing about interior decor is that oftentimes it doesn't need to match. You should buy a great dining room table and mix and match chairs. This is excellent for cottage and country-styled houses. Buying a table second hand and adding chairs from different places essentially creates a great design component, as well as a sense of achievement. Give those used chairs an opportunity to shine!

Always keep your working are clean when doing home enhancements. Many accidents happen when an area is disordered with debris and you cannot move and work correctly. Take some time from your project and clean the waste from the area. This will help protect you from trips, falls, and tangled cords.

If you are painting your home, be sure to clean off your brushes as fast as you've finished using them. Letting paint dry on the brushes can cause damage to the bristles and make them less effective. Additionally , if you fail to clean brushes totally and then move on to color another room, flecks of the first paint color may finish up in the new colour.

Never underestimate your home-improvement project. Before starting, jot down a list of the required steps that must definitely be followed, and have it reviewed by someone that is more informed than you to be certain there aren't any missing steps. Overestimate the time required to complete the project in case there are any unanticipated issues.

For a paint finish that really lasts, always sand, strip and prime, before trying a fresh coat. Many people think that skipping the preparatory steps of painting will accelerate the process , but down the line old paint will peel thru the new finish, spoiling your paint job and compelling you to strip off yet another layer of paint before repainting again.

In summary, home-improvement is less complicated now than ever. By employing the tips provided, you can be on your way to having the home you have always dreamed of. With a little bit of time, energy and creativity, you are sure to create the perfect look for your home. The best part is that you can reach it all for fragments of what you would pay a pro.

From degeneration to regeneration: Advances in skeletal muscle engineering

ScienceDaily (Nov. 26, 2012) ? A study published today in BioMed Central?s open access journal Skeletal Muscle reports of a new therapeutic technique to repair and rebuild muscle for sufferers of degenerative muscle disorders. The therapy brings together two existing techniques for muscle repair ? cell transplantation and tissue engineering ? specifically, mesoangioblast stem cells delivered via a hydrogel cell-carrier matrix.

A number of conditions can lead to considerable degeneration or loss of skeletal muscle and, since skeletal muscle has a limited capacity for self repair, therapies for muscle reconstruction or regeneration are often necessary. There are currently two ways to rebuild muscle: cell transplantation, whereby stem cells are injected directly into the muscle or arteries, and tissue engineering, whereby cells are embedded on a biomaterial scaffold to reconstruct a whole muscle.

Stem cell transplantation on its own can be limited by poor cell survival, but the authors hoped that the technique in combination with tissue engineering could increase the chances of efficacy for localized disorders of muscle.

The research team, comprised of researchers from institutions all over Europe, embedded Mab cells within a polyethylene glycol and fibrinogen (PF) hydrogel scaffold that has a proven track record in tissue and cardiac engineering. The Mab/PF grafts were then injected into mice, directly into the chronically inflamed and sclerotic regions typical of the advanced stages of muscular dystrophy. The team observed increased engraftment and survival of Mabs when injected with PF than with Mabs suspended in saline solution.

Five weeks after treatment, analyses revealed that Mabs had better integrated into regenerating muscle fibers when used with a PF carrier than when used without. In addition, there was better organization of muscle fibers when Mabs was used in combination with PF.

Lead author Cesare Gargioli commented, ?This study demonstrates a novel tissue engineering approach that is capable of producing enriched donor cell engraftment into skeletal muscle after an acute injury or in more-difficult-to-treat advanced-stage muscular dystrophy. Both Mabs and PF are currently undergoing separate clinical trials, but their combined use may increase efficacy for sufferers with more localized forms of muscular dystrophy or disorders that lead to damage of skeletal muscle, including hernias and sphincter disorders.?

When it comes to gender gap, men play crucial role

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Sorry, fellas, but President Barack Obama's re-election makes it official: Women can overrule men at the ballot box.

For the first time in research dating to 1952, a presidential candidate whom men chose decisively ? Republican Mitt Romney ? lost. More women voted for the other guy.

It's surprising it didn't happen sooner because women have been voting in larger numbers than men for almost three decades, exit polls show.

But men, who make up less than half the U.S. population, always have exercised power greater than their numbers and they aren't about to stop now.

When it comes to elections, males as a group are more influential because they show less party loyalty than women, who skew Democratic.

Despite all the focus on candidates courting Hispanics or the working class, men are the nation's ultimate swing voters; they're why Republican George W. Bush became president and Republican John McCain didn't.

Their move away from Obama this year expanded the voting "gender gap." It wasn't enough to determine the outcome, but came close.

So presidential hopefuls staring into the gender gap in 2016 might want to look beyond the usual controversies over "women's issues" such as abortion or the polling fads such as "Wal-Mart moms." Maybe it's time to pause and consider the fickle male. Maybe it's time to ask, "What do men want?"

In the voting booth, that is.

"I don't think we fully understand it yet," political scientist Christina Wolbrecht of the University of Notre Dame said about why men and women vote differently. But she said plenty of research on elections going back to the 1950s indicates it's not because of issues such as equal pay, birth control coverage in health plans or Romney's awkward reference to "binders full of women."

Paul Kellstedt has some ideas. A Texas A&M associate professor of political science, Kellstedt studies what American men and women want from their government and how that shifts over time.

Like Wolbrecht, he noted that the sexes aren't that different, at least when it comes to the issues.

Studies have found that the opinions that separate liberals and conservatives, even on issues such as abortion, don't divide the sexes much. Men and women are about as likely to fall on either side of those debates, and millions of each happily line up with each political party.

But there has been a consistent thread of disagreement for decades over what role the government should play. It's not a big gap, but it is statistically significant, about 4 percentage points or 5 points in many studies, Kellstedt said. As a group, women tend to like bigger government with more health and welfare programs; men lean toward smaller government that spends less, except on the military.

Sort of the social safety net versus rugged individualism. Or Obama versus Romney.

There are lots of possible reasons the genders see this differently.

Besides women's traditional role as family nurturers, they also live longer than men and so are more likely to rely on Social Security and Medicare. Women are more likely to be poor. They're more likely to be single parents struggling to pay for child care, education and medical bills. Men may feel many social programs are expensive and won't benefit them.

"Women tend to believe that government has a role to play, that it should be a partner in their life," said Democratic pollster Celinda Lake. "Men tend to think it's been a good day when the government hasn't done anything bad to you."

When the nation as a whole drifts to the left or right on the big government-small government debate, the gap between men and women fluctuates. Men and women shift their views in the same direction, Kellstedt said, but men as a group tend to change their minds faster and move their views farther.

"The variation among men's opinions is larger," he said. "The flighty, moody ones are the men, not the women."

He said this difference of opinion on the role of government isn't big enough to entirely explain the larger gender gap in voting, however. "It's a little bit of a puzzle."

Women as a group voted Democratic in the past six presidential races, from 1992 through 2012, according to exit polls. The last time they decisively supported a Republican was Ronald Reagan's re-election in 1984. The Reagan years were when Americans first began taking note of the "gender gap," as women's rights groups emphasized that female support for Reagan in 1980 was narrow while male voters overwhelmingly endorsed him.

Men lean Republican but play the field. In the past six presidential races, men voted Republican three times, Democratic twice (including barely supporting Obama in 2008), and essentially split their vote in the 1996 Bill Clinton-Bob Dole race, exit polls show.

This year Obama campaigned on giving a leg up to those needing education, health care or job training. Romney talked about shrinking government, except for the military, and said overgrown social programs were creating a culture of dependency. Their arguments fit the long-running fissure of the gender gap.

"Women stuck with Obama," said Karen Kaufmann, a University of Maryland associate professor who studies the gender gap. "We didn't see a lot of movement from women. The movement was really men going back to the Republican Party."

Women's support for Obama dropped just 1 percentage point from 2008; they voted for him by 55 percent to 44 percent this time. Men's support for Obama dropped 4 points, flipping them to Romney's side, by a 52-45 margin. Women were 10 percentage points more likely to vote for Obama than men were, according to the survey of voters at the polls conducted for The Associated Press and television networks.

Gallup polling has tracked the gender gap since 1952. Gallup says this year's gender divide was 20 percentage points, the largest ever using its method of calculation.

The gender gap isn't just a white thing. It exists even among minorities that vote overwhelmingly Democratic. Obama got 96 percent of black women's votes, but 87 percent of black men's, compared with 76 percent of Hispanic women and 65 percent of Hispanic men, according to the exit poll.

"We group together this white male vote and sort of put that in the Republican ledger and we don't talk enough about all the various subgroups that fit within men and the multiple issues and currents that determine how they're going to vote," said sociologist Donald Levy, director of the Siena College's research institute.

"The Democrats aren't succeeding with some of these folks," Levy said. The Democratic Party needs to figure out why, he said, the same way "the Republicans are doing some soul-searching about how they can appeal to women."

Could fruit help to improve vascular health?

ScienceDaily (Nov. 22, 2012) ? Scientists at the University of Warwick and consumer goods manufacturer Unilever are joining forces to identify whether the nutrients in everyday fruit and vegetables could help to improve people's cardiovascular health and protect them from Type-2 diabetes.

The research collaboration has been set up to better understand if the nutrients and bioactives in fruits like grapes, strawberries and olives -- in the right combination -- could have a greater impact on people's heart and vascular health.

The study's hypothesis is that the nutrients found in fruit help to trigger cell defence mechanisms in the tissue walls of blood vessels which not only protect them from the damage caused by the ageing process, but also help to prevent the onset of Type-2 diabetes. If proven, it would be the first time a direct association has been made between eating fruit and improving heart health.

During the three-year programme, innovative screening technology developed by the University of Warwick will be used to identify which fruit and vegetables have the right nutrients to have a positive impact on people's vascular health. These findings will then be used to develop prototype products to be tested on human blood vessels using in vitro trials.

If successful, clinical trials of the prototype products would then be carried out on middle-aged, overweight volunteers using state-of-the-art metabolism research equipment at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwick Trusts (UHCW). The volunteers will have their blood vessel function and glucose levels monitored to demonstrate which foods directly activate and optimise protective qualities and functions within our bodies.

The ?1.1m research study, which has been co-funded by the UK Technology Strategy Board, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and Unilever, might one day result in a new range of healthy products which contain ingredients designed to help improve people's cardiovascular health.

Professor Paul Thornalley from Warwick Medical School explained: "Linking the expertise from industry and our scientific research, added to the ability to trial foods in a clinical setting at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire Trusts (UHCW), gives us a perfect platform to drive the research forward.

"We believe we can harness the health-giving properties of fruits such as grapes, strawberries and olives to raise the body's natural defences against developing heart disease and diabetes and therefore help tackle the growing problems of declining health in our ageing and increasingly overweight population."

Dr Gail Jenkins, based at Unilever's Research & Development laboratories at Colworth Science Park, near Bedford, added: "This research is firstly about improving our understanding of which fruit and vegetables are good for our heart health, and then testing these findings in clinical trials to see if one day we can develop a product which activates people's cell defence systems to help improve their vascular function and help protect them from Type-2 diabetes. Fiona Apple Puts Family First, Cancels Tour For Her Dying Dog

In a compassionate decision, Fiona Apple cancels her South American tour in order to stay home and tend to her dying dog Janet. Photo Credit: pop dust.com

Dori Edwards, Global Animal

Singer/songwriter Fiona Apple canceled her upcoming South American tour in a soul-bearing, hand-written letter postmarked to her dedicated fans. In an act of extreme compassion, Apple announced she must delay performing for ?the thousands of friends (she) has not met? in order to tend to her dying dog.?

Janet, Apple?s thirteen-year-old pitbull, is suffering from a chest tumor and Addison?s Disease which requires routine injections of Cortisol, a steroid hormone. This intensive care did not allow for Apple to bring Janet on tour and she therefore, in what she stated was an ?instant? decision, made the loving choice to instead??help (Janet) be comfortable, and comforted, and safe, and important.?

In this four-page letter released on her website and Facebook page, Fiona expresses her love, loyalty and commitment to the companion she has shared 13 wonderful years with. Apple?s ode portrays her honorable values and understanding that our four legged friends are family.?

For those of us who have experienced the loss of a pet and stood by them through their dying moments, there is nothing more important than properly seeing them off into the ??wind, and in the soil, and the snow,? as Fiona so beautifully articulates.

We at Global Animal support and respect Fiona?s decision and wish her and Janet the best. Her letter is a must-read and makes us grateful for the relationships we often take for granted.? Read the letter below:

?It?s 6pm on Friday, and I?m writing to a few thousand friends I have not met yet.

I am writing to ask them to change our plans and meet a little while later.

Here?s the thing.

I have a dog Janet, and she?s been ill for almost two years now, as a tumor has been idling in her chest, growing ever so slowly. She?s almost 14 years old now.I got her when she was 4 months old. I was 21 then ,an adult officially ? and she was my child.

She is a pitbull, and was found in Echo Park, with a rope around her neck, and bites all over her ears and face.

She was the one the dogfighters use to puff up the confidence of the contenders.

She?s almost 14 and I?ve never seen her start a fight ,or bite, or even growl, so I can understand why they chose her for that awful role. She?s a pacifist.

Janet has been the most consistent relationship of my adult life, and that is just a fact.

We?ve lived in numerous houses, and jumped a few make shift families, but it?s always really been the two of us.

She slept in bed with me, her head on the pillow, and she accepted my hysterical, tearful face into her chest, with her paws around me, every time I was heartbroken, or spirit-broken, or just lost, and as years went by, she let me take the role of her child, as I fell asleep, with her chin resting above my head.

She was under the piano when I wrote songs, barked any time I tried to record anything, and she was in the studio with me all the time we recorded the last album.

The last time I came back from tour, she was spry as ever, and she?s used to me being gone for a few weeks every 6 or 7 years.

She has Addison?s Disease, which makes it dangerous for her to travel since she needs regular injections of Cortisol, because she reacts to stress and to excitement without the physiological tools which keep most of us from literally panicking to death.

Despite all of this, she?s effortlessly joyful and playful, and only stopped acting like a puppy about 3 years ago.

She?s my best friend and my mother and my daughter, my benefactor, and she?s the one who taught me what love is.

I can?t come to South America. Not now.

When I got back from the last leg of the US tour, there was a big, big difference.

She doesn?t even want to go for walks anymore.

I know that she?s not sad about aging or dying. Animals have a survival instinct, but a sense of mortality and vanity, they do not. That?s why they are so much more present than people.

But I know that she is coming close to point where she will stop being a dog, and instead, be part of everything. She?ll be in the wind, and in the soil, and the snow, and in me, wherever I go.

I just can?t leave her now, please understand.

If I go away again, I?m afraid she?ll die and I won?t have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out.

Sometimes it takes me 20 minutes to pick which socks to wear to bed.

But this decision is instant.

These are the choices we make, which define us.

I will not be the woman who puts her career ahead of love and friendship.

I am the woman who stays home and bakes Tilapia for my dearest, oldest friend.

And helps her be comfortable, and comforted, and safe, and important.

Many of us these days, we dread the death of a loved one. It is the ugly truth of Life, that keeps us feeling terrified and alone.

I wish we could also appreciate the time that lies right beside the end of time.

I know that I will feel the most overwhelming knowledge of her, and of her life and of my love for her, in the last moments.

I need to do my damnedest to be there for that.

Because it will be the most beautiful, the most intense, the most enriching experience of life I?ve ever known.

When she dies.

So I am staying home, and I am listening to her snore and wheeze, and reveling in the swampiest, most awful breath that ever emanated from an angel.

And I am asking for your blessing.I?ll be seeing you.

Love, Fiona?
